Women's Phoenix Barrel Leg Pant
Phoenix Barrel Leg Pant
At 5'5" and a size 14, I found the fit of these pants to be quite overwhelming. Instead of a high-fashion look, I felt like I was wearing clown pants. There was simply too much volume around the legs, which didn't flatter my curves or my height. While this style is very trendy right now, it is definitely not a "universal" cut. The Phoenix Fleece line usually has great waistbands (this one is high-waisted and supportive), but the exaggerated width of the legs overshadowed the good design elements. If you are looking for a streamlined or athletic look, this isn't it. It felt very experimental, and for me, the experiment didn't pay off. The fabric is the one area where these pants really shine. Like most of the Phoenix Fleece collection, the material is excellent. It’s a mid-weight, brushed fleece that feels soft, premium, and cozy. It has enough structure to hold the "barrel" shape (for better or worse) and feels like it would be very durable over time. What I liked most: The quality of the fleece. Nike knows how to make a comfortable, high-quality sweatpant that feels built to last. What I would change: The proportions are just too extreme. I would reduce the volume in the leg to create a more wearable "tapered" look rather than a full barrel. If you love an avant-garde, oversized look and have the height to pull it off, you might enjoy these. But for those of us with more average heights and curves, the "clown pants" effect is real. I’ll be sticking to the standard Phoenix wide-leg or jogger styles instead.
