The Vaporfly 4 is a lean, mean, mile-eating machine. We trimmed weight in the midsole, outsole and upper from the Vaporfly 3 without sacrificing performance. The result is a lighter, more propulsive all-around racing shoe that’s trusted from the mile to the marathon.
Engineered mesh up top helps reduce the weight of the shoe while providing a more consistent fit. We also saved weight by reducing the size of the heel and tongue.
Nike ZoomX, our most responsive foam, just got lighter. Running from heel to toe, it unlocks even more energy return than before with a slight midsole reduction, giving you a bouncy feel.
We reduced the weight of the outsole by using a thinner rubber compared to the Vaporfly 3.
The full-length carbon fiber Flyplate sits at a higher angle compared to the plate in the Vaporfly 3. It combines with a lower heel-to-toe drop to give you a propulsive feel on race day.

These are my first pair of race day shoes with a carbon fiber plate in them and I think they're great, but I do think if they added one or two of those air pouches in the sole it would help a lot with cushion/bounce.

The Vaporfly 4 is a welcome return to the style and feel of the Vaporfly Next% and the Vaporfly 2. If you liked those previous versions, you'll love the VF4. The shoe is lighter, snappier and somehow more comfortable than the VF3. I felt the VF3 was almost too sloppy in the upper and the heel lockdown was horrible. The VF4 corrected those issues and even pushed the plate further back in the shoe to give you more of a stable platform and toe off. And you can't beat the Prefontaine colorway! This shoe is great for distances ranging from the mile to 13.1. I'm sure you can pull off a 26.2 in this shoe, but the Alphafly 3 is a much better choice. Cheers!
