What is the Mercurial Vapor 17 built for?
The Vapor 17 is built for light speed: rapid, multi‑directional quickness inspired by athletes who win with sharp cuts, agility, and constant movement. Weighing approximately 155 grams (Men’s size 9, FG), it is the lightest Mercurial to date, up to 20% lighter than the previous generation, designed to feel fast and responsive in every direction.
What's new on the Vapor 17?
The Vapor 17 is significantly lighter than the Vapor 16, representing a massive leap forward where every gram of the shoe was considered as the team stripped back as much as possible while maintaining optimal performance in the build. The upper has been redesigned from GripKnit to AtomKnit, Nike’s lightest Flyknit ever. The Flylite plate has also been updated with advanced film carrier construction to keep weight as low as possible without sacrificing traction or responsiveness.
What's the difference between the Mercurial Superfly 11 and Vapor 17?
The Mercurial Superfly 11 is built for explosive acceleration and fast sprints, pairing an Air Zoom plate, ZoomX sockliner and Flyweave Ultra upper for a spring-loaded feel at top speed. The Mercurial Vapor 17 is lighter and tuned for quick cuts, sharp changes of direction and agility in tight spaces.
What is AtomKnit?
AtomKnit is Nike's lightest, most transparent Flyknit construction to date. It wraps the foot with minimal material so the cleats disappear on your foot, giving you a natural, barefoot feel and an instinctive touch on the ball.
How does the Mercurial Vapor 17 fit?
Like a second skin. The AtomKnit upper conforms closely to the foot without restricting movement, giving you a low-profile, barefoot fit. Unlike the Superfly, the Vapor is a low-top with no ankle cuff for total freedom of movement.
What is the Flylite plate?
The Flylite is Nike’s only lightweight plate system, built with advanced film carrier construction to keep the shoe as light as possible. Anatomical traction is engineered into the plate to optimize acceleration, quick cuts and sharp direction changes at pace.
Which price tier is right for me?
The Elite features AtomKnit and the full Flylite plate system with anatomical traction. The Pro brings engineered two-layer Flyknit and the lightweight plate and is lighter than the FA24 Pro. The Academy is significantly lighter than the FA24 Academy, with a NikeSkin upper engineered for touch and the same lightweight plate system across the line.
What surface options are available with the Mercurial Vapor 17?
The Mercurial Vapor 17 is available in multiple versions to match your pitch. Firm Ground (FG) is built for dry, natural grass. Artificial Grass (AG) is designed for modern synthetic fields. Soft Ground (SG-PRO) is made for wet, muddy conditions. Multi-Ground (MG), Hard Ground (HG), Indoor/Court (IC) and Turf (TF) options are also available for specific playing environments.
Is the Mercurial Vapor 17 available for kids?
Yes. Junior Vapor options are available at Pro, Academy and Club price points with the same lightweight build, scaled for younger players. The Jr Pro brings Flyknit and a lightweight plate.
