Behind the Design

Taking center stage is a hand-drawn “El Valle” (“The Valley” in Spanish) wordmark, representing the dedicated Chicano and Hispanic fans that make the Valley of the Sun such a special place. The lower-left anthem detail and side panels have a custom pinstriping design commonly found within the paint jobs of lowriders throughout The Valley.

How This Was Made

The recycled polyester used in Nike products begins as recycled plastic bottles, which are cleaned, shredded into flakes and converted into pellets. From there, the pellets are spun into new, high-quality yarn used in our products, delivering peak performance with a lower impact on the environment.
In addition to reducing waste, recycled polyester reduces carbon emissions by up to 30% compared to virgin polyester. Nike diverts an average of 1 billion plastic bottles annually from landfills and waterways.

Mexican culture runs deep in Phoenix — both on and off the court — and the Suns’ Nike NBA 2023-24 City Edition uniform pays tribute to that, as well as the team’s Chicano fanbase.

The “El Valle” uniform celebrates low rider culture and the art of rolling bajoito y suavecito (low and slow) with its rich colors and close attention to detail throughout. In addition to the midnight purple base, orchid purple trim, orange accents and turquoise piping, a valley-inspired gradient is featured on the number sets and side panels.

The side panel of both the jersey and the shorts features a custom pinstriping design commonly found within paintjobs of lowriders throughout the Valley. The jersey also features a hand-drawn “El Valle” wordmark inspired by the Chicano art movement, representing the dedicated Chicano and Hispanic fans that make the Valley of the Suns such a special place.
