These are great. From what I remember of the original Juniper Trail 1's I had, these feel much improved. This iteration definitely feels a lot more stable with a firmer (but still comfortable) midsole cushion, and a nice rubber outsole with some traction - which should be good for handling trail conditions. I also remember that in the Juniper Trail 1's, the heels bottomed out really quickly, but these feel beefed up there, and again with the firmer foam in the midsole that should mitigate that issue in this version. Materials are alright, it is a more budget trail shoe so don't expect anything too premium, but there's a thicker weave fabric and some fusing towards the outside areas to hopefully boost longevity of the shoe, and a nice breathable mesh along the tongue. Lockdown feels good - there's some midfoot cables to pull the foot down, and extra lace holes up top you can use to draw the foot into the heel of the shoe. For me it does press into my ankle bones just a bit, not painful but noticeable, however I think with time that should wear into shape - as there's good cushioning in that area. Overall feels like a solid trail shoe under $100.
