Nike conducts annual manual audits involving individuals with disabilities, alongside automated accessibility testing through tools like Google Lighthouse. Audit results are tracked in Jira, where issues are triaged and prioritized based on impact. Accessibility improvements focus on keyboard navigation, screen readers, color contrast, input forms, and error messaging. Nike also integrates usability studies and employs people with disabilities to ensure continuous feedback and improvement.
Compliance Status
Nike.com largely meets the Accessibility Requirements of WCAG 2.1 AA.
Audits & User Feedback
At Nike, we leverage both automated accessibility testing and manual audits which include people with disabilities. We conduct annual manual re-audits on consumer-facing technologies aligned to WCAG 2.1 AA using screen readers, screen magnifiers, keyboards, and more assistive technologies. We file the results of those audits in Jira, our issue-tracking software, and triage issues with engineering and product teams. We have also integrated Google Lighthouse in our development pipeline on Nike.com to ensure we have consistent monitoring and display those results on an internal dashboard.
Corrective technical measures
Audits and user feedback allow us to focus on the most important issues, in accordance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Each relevant issue undergoes a process of prioritisation, categorisation and technical triage. The issues most likely to affect the experience of people with disabilities are a top priority for us. In general, we focus on resolving issues related to, but not limited to, the following:
- Keyboard, tab navigation and attention management
- VoiceOver, TalkBack, JAWS, NVDA and Dragon Naturally Speaking
- Screen enlargement
- Use and contrast of colours
- Error messages and forms to fill in
