Soft Ground Football Boots (SG)

Take total control of the game in soft ground football boots designed for wet and muddy pitches. Specialised traction lets you play at your peak, whatever the weather. Meanwhile, screw-in studs provide you with the grip you need on damp ground, allowing you to focus on the match.

Superior traction

Stay in control during wet conditions in our SG football boots. We've made this footwear with specialised traction that helps you stay fast and agile when bad weather hits. Conical studs work to create grip and stability, so you can concentrate on the match. Our soft-ground football boots feature chevron studs, providing multi-directional traction for quick cuts and controlled speed changes. Plus, Nike Anti-Clog Traction stops mud from sticking to the soleplates, allowing maximum performance.

Next-level ball control

Move the ball with confidence in our soft ground football boots. Our All Conditions Control finish gives you a reliable touch in wet weather. The surface has the same level of friction in any conditions, so you experience incredible ball control. Raised textures on the top and sides of our shoes mean you can dribble and shoot with precision. For ultimate command of the ball, go for footwear with off-centre lacing that creates a clean strike zone. Combining this with textured patterns on the boots' uppers gives you impressive ball spin.

Support and stability

When you're bringing your A-game to damp fields, SG football boots with soft collars deliver extra stability. You'll find pairs featuring Nike Flyknit technology that wraps your ankle in a snug and stretchy fabric. The sock-like fit gives you all the support you need to glide past your opponents. Plus, breathable weaves keep you cool when the game heats up. Function shouldn't sacrifice comfort, which is why our boots have cushioned insoles—they deliver an intense underfoot bounce as you put your all into your attack. Plus, look out for insoles with Nike Gripknit technology. It stops your foot from slipping inside your boot. Meanwhile, lightweight materials cut out the bulk, so you can power across the pitch.

Designs for every boot bag

The football field is the ideal place to show off what sets you apart. We make our soft ground football boots for juniors in a range of colours and prints to suit future athletes. Looking for an adult option? From easy neutrals to statement metallic detailing, we've got you covered. Each pair is branded with our iconic Nike Swoosh—often in a contrasting colour to help you stand out on the pitch. Or why not go for a coordinated look with tonal laces and studs?

What are SG football boots?

SG stands for Soft-Ground. These football boots are designed to handle wet, muddy and soft natural grass pitches, giving you the extra traction you need. They typically feature longer, removable metal studs that penetrate softer ground conditions more effectively than moulded plastic studs.

What surfaces are SG boots designed for?

SG football boots are made for soft, natural grass pitches that have become wet, muddy or waterlogged. They deliver enhanced grip in conditions where standard firm-ground boots struggle to gain traction.

When should you wear SG football boots?

SG football boots are best worn when natural grass pitches become soft, which typically happens during autumn and winter. You'll notice players switching to SG football boots when the playing surface becomes slippery, and mud starts to cut up.

What’s the difference between SG and FG boots?

SG football boots are designed for soft, wet natural grass and use longer, removable metal studs for maximum grip. FG (firm-ground) football boots are made for dry or slightly damp natural grass, and feature moulded plastic studs that deliver traction without penetrating too deeply.

Why do SG boots have metal studs?

SG football boots often use metal-tipped or aluminium studs that can penetrate soft ground more effectively than plastic studs. This means players stay stable, giving them traction and balance on muddy pitches.

Are SG boots better for wet-weather football?

SG football boots are specifically designed for wet and muddy conditions where standard boots would slip. To get the ultimate wet-weather performance, look for Nike SG models featuring Anti-Clog Traction—our innovative soleplate technology that repels mud, keeping your boots light and clean.

Can SG boots be used on firm ground?

SG football boots are not recommended for firm ground conditions. Because the longer metal studs cannot penetrate hard surfaces, you will essentially be standing on top of the studs. This severely reduces your stability, increases the risk of ankle injuries, and causes painful pressure from the studs on your feet.

Are SG boots suitable for artificial grass?

No, SG football boots should never be used on artificial grass, and are typically banned by most 3G and 4G facilities. Metal studs can damage the pitch, and the grip of metal on turf can lock your foot in place, significantly increasing the risk of serious knee and ankle injuries. For artificial grass, choose AG or MG football boots.
