Official Air Force 1 size guide and tips

First introduced as a basketball shoe in 1982 with revolutionising Nike Air cushioning, Nike Air Force 1 shoes have transcended the label of basketball kicks. They're an icon and an essential wardrobe staple that changed sneaker history. AF-1s are constructed with stitched overlays on the upper that sit on a foam midsole and rubber outsole. The design gives you the right height for comfort and offers a timeless silhouette.

Do Nike Air Force 1s run big?

Air Force 1s generally run big due to the roomy toe box, which allows for a relaxed fit. We recommend selecting half a size smaller than your usual Nike shoe size. However, if you have wide feet, you can go with your usual Nike size without having to size down. The shoes get roomier as you break them in.

However, some editions of AF-1 may fit differently based on upper materials or different midsoles (like the lifted midsole of the Nike Air Force 1 PLT.AF.ORM). One tip is to check 'size & fit' on the product description page to see if there are specific fit recommendations.

Quick tips:

How does the Nike Air Force 1 fit?
Air Force 1s have a spacious toe box, offering a relaxed and comfortable fit. The midsole adds a bit of weight compared with other lifestyle sneakers, but it also provides extra cushioning for enhanced comfort. With the leather styles, expect them to break in and mould to your feet over time, ensuring a personalised fit with continued wear.

What's your personal preference?
Choosing the right size for your Air Force 1s comes down to personal preference. Are your feet narrow or wide? Do you prefer a snug and secure fit or a more relaxed fit? How do you prevent creasing? Are you opting for a low, mid or high style? And what type of socks do you plan to pair with them? Take all these considerations into account when finding the perfect fit for your AF-1s.

What is my size in Air Force 1?
If you normally wear a size 9 in Nike shoes, consider a size 8.5 in Air Force 1s. Also check out recommendations on the shoe's PDP.

Loose fit or secure fit?
If you prefer a secure fit all-round, go half a size smaller than your usual Nike size. It will feel snug at first, but the leather will stretch over time while staying secure on your foot.

If you prefer a roomy and relaxed fit, go with your usual Nike size. While AF-1s generally run big, going with your usual size provides extra room around the toe box. However, the roomier fit around the toe box area might be more prone to creasing.

Lacing style
If you prefer the classic laced-up look, consider going down half a size from your normal Nike size. However, avoid over-tightening your laces to prevent excess creasing along the sides. Alternatively, if you prefer a more relaxed, slip-on style, consider dropping a full size from your usual Nike size. This adjustment ensures a snugger fit, minimising foot and heel movement.

Insoles and socks
The insoles and socks can affect Air Force 1 sizing. For example, if you find yourself between sizes, combining thick socks with a larger-sized shoe can provide a more comfortable fit. Alternatively, adding an insole can enhance the overall snugness.
