Pros and Cons from someone who LOVED the peg trail 5. Pros: 1) More stable than trail 5. Huge plus. Ankle and foot won’t roll as easily as trail 5. 2) cushioning is more forgiving than the 5. 3) foot lockdown is much improved. My Foot would slide in the peg trail 5, it does not in this. Cons: the extra cushioning in the forefoot takes away the Proprioception you had in the 5. You feel the cushioning, but not always the earth beneath. Essentially the muscles in the foot work harder in this model because instead of feeling the ground, you feel cushioning and the body doesn’t respond to the energy return as well. My feet are more tired after running in this new version than the previous version. This is the #1 reason it’s gets a 3 star. If you’re walking or doing chores or not running, these are great shoes. Otherwise - I’d look elsewhere for those who want a trail shoe that allows you have to better Proprioception. If the model stays the same for next year - I’ll likely just wear out what I have and find an alternative.
