Behind The Design
Air Max 270 React
Since its initial release in 2018, the Air Max 270 has grown to become the first 100-percent lifestyle Air shoe. Today, the Air Max 270 React brings together the best of two worlds by combining the bounce of a 270 Air unit and the cushion of React foam. The upper adds a modern aesthetic, with multi-layered no-sew materials that balance and complement each other. With versatility in mind, the traditional tongue is paired with a speed lacing system for any athlete’s needs.
Aesthetically, the 270 React’s design blends art and style to accomplish unique colorway compositions. It draws inspiration from radiating levels of color and texture found in various art movements over the last 100+ years. It’s known that the world of art has always been able to evoke various interpretations and emotional connections through different eras and mediums. Similar to art movements, the new Air Max 270 React lends itself to the style and expression of the wearer so that each new design truly has endless expression and styling possibilities.
The 270 Air unit was designed through a lens of sport performance, but with the lifestyle demands of all-day wear in mind. Referring to the 270 degrees of visible air, the 2018 Air Max release featured the largest air bubble yet with a super-soft bounce that’s perfect for long days on the go. Beyond its technology, the 270 is on track to become an iconic Air Max style with a go-to layer of comfort.
Featured in the sneaker’s forefront is React, Nike’s recent groundbreaking innovation in foam technology. In an effort to make running and walking more comfortable, it’s science-based design discovery started with a pressure map revealing areas of constant impact. While visually the curved patterns are intriguing, there is a performance and functional purpose as well. What really makes React foam different is that it’s the longest-lasting foam, adding in an element of flexibility and bounce to running sneakers.
Individually, both cushioning systems possess unique qualities, but by pairing them together in the Air Max 270 React a completely new sensation is created, marking the next step in Air Max’s evolution.
