In some ways these are 5 star shoes but it depends on what you're expecting. In the past I've done a lot of trail running and these shoes lack good lateral stabilization that I've had in previous trail running shoes. If you're worried about rolling an ankle or are going to be running on very uneven surfaces I don't recommend these. Also I found the toe box to feel weirdly wide. For reference I've measured my feet and they're only a hair more narrow than medium width. Now on to the Pros. There's a ton of padding and they feel spongey. I didn't expect this from looking at the photos but the curve of the heel and toe combined with the stiff base create kind of a rolling effect that helps to propel me slightly. If I'm feeling a little tired (I have chronic illness so that can be a problem), these shoes give me an extra boost and make it easier to move. I expect that I'll wear them around the house on days when I'm feeling a bit fatigued to give me a little extra help. I usually wear the Nike Free which has a lot of flexibility in the sole to help maintain the muscles in my feet but these are a good addition for the days when I need a little help. For someone who's just starting out with trail running on a well manicured, smooth trail these would be a pretty good choice.
