Kobe VIII
Kobe Bryant and Nike unveiled the Kobe VIII—also known as the Kobe VIII System—in November of 2012. The design for the eighth signature installment harnessed several performance innovations and arrived at the time as Kobe’s lightest and lowest signature shoe. In a first for Nike Basketball, engineered mesh was featured on the upper to promote breathability and flexibility. Synthetic overlays on the toe and lateral quarter provided support. A full-length Lunarlon midsole was incorporated for lightweight cushioning.
Kobe VIII Protro
The Kobe VIII was revealed in Protro form for the first time in August of 2023, and introduced the ‘Halo’ colorway concept honoring Kobe’s birthday. Coined by Kobe himself, Protro stands for performance retro and involves enhancing existing silhouettes for the current state of the game. The Kobe VIII was retooled with a Nike React midsole for premium cushioning, and a new herringbone traction pattern for strong grip.
