AIR MOVES NYC

Air embodies Nike’s endless desire to dream.
Decades ago, we harnessed this shape-shifting element to forever change Nike, and to take those who put it beneath their feet to places they never thought possible.
In celebration of the next generation of Nike Air, we’ve partnered with a select group of artists to turn their imagination to reality using the Air Max 270 as their inspiration.
Inspired by Air, it’s their creativity, passion and community that moves us and together we move New York City.

The Air Gallery will be open in NYC from 3.27 to 3.31 at NYC: On Air, 39 S. 5th St., Brooklyn.

AIR MOVES ADAM LUCAS

ACRYLIC & SPRAY PAINT ON CANVAS
Adam Lucas works with source material and pulls it apart, picking and choosing certain elements or patterns that he finds interesting, re-interpreting them and adding visual wordplay or phrases that relate to both the subject and his connection to it. It's in the added layers that he finds interest — with every shape or letter taking on a meaning, this time inspired by the Air Max 270 —  even though the naked eye won't be able to pick everything up at first glance.

AIR MOVES KACPER ABOLIK

ACRYLIC, OIL, INK & MIXED MEDIA
As an information age portrayer, Kacper works as a royal court painter depicting people of varying significance in contemporary society. His portraits capture the identity of his subjects while simultaneously portraying culture and technology as a means for both communicating feeling and a technique of grounding human existence. Additionally, he paints scenes straight from his own consciousness and figure studies tied to art history, and in this case, Air Max. He has started to translate the composition of his paintings into sculpture.

AIR MOVES LILKOOL

PAINTING & ILLUSTRATION
Since moving to New York in 2008, LilKool’s repertoire has expanded to include painting, illustration, large-scale murals, photography and fashion collaborations. LilKool’s stylistic influences range from classic painters and the cartoons of his childhood to snippets from the obscure comic book scene. His content draws from web culture, pop art, politics, and life in Brooklyn.

AIR MOVES MALIK ROBERTS

PAINTING & MUTLIMEDIA
Malik Roberts is a Brooklyn-based painter and multimedia artist creating deconstructed portraits with controversial contemporary subjects, which explore the relationship between visual culture and reality today. While his visual style combines influences of modern and pop art, the artist’s sophisticated compositions provoke engagement rather than astonishment, inviting the viewer to consider the impact of visual media on the consumption of ideas in the digital age.
