The concept is rooted in Awake NY Founder, Angelo Baque’s early adulthood, when traditional luxury felt out of reach and bootleg culture offered an alternative: a way to participate, reinterpret, and create value on your own terms. What began as a compromise became its own form of expression. Over time, the same design language once dismissed as imitation moved from street markets into fashion houses, transforming the relationship between authenticity, aspiration, and access. The AJ6 x Awake NY exists within that tension. Like a Trojan horse, its exaggerated color blocking, unconventional stitching, and mysteriously altered branding suggest something unofficial. A closer look reveals the opposite: premium leather, considered construction, and the refinement expected from an icon. Midnight Navy and Light Blue leather are paired with Game Royal nubuck, Sail accents, and Infrared 23 details. Awake NY’s crown appears alongside signature Air Jordan 6 elements, including the lace pocket, toggles, and Nike Air cushioning in the heel and forefoot. Inspired by the bootleg but elevated through craft, the collaboration bridges Awake NY's past with the present; bringing luxury and refinement back into sneaker culture while challenging who luxury is made for.
