  • Luka 5 Review

    E

I think the overall fit of the Jordan Luka 5 is a little too tight. The inner cushioning provides great support, but it also takes up additional space inside the shoe, making the fit feel smaller than expected. At times, it feels like my toes are brushing against the front of the shoe, which can become uncomfortable during activities such as basketball. I would recommend going up a half size or even a full size for a more comfortable fit. However, I am curious to see how the shoes will fit once I fully break them in. I plan on wearing them primarily as workout shoes for now to continue breaking them in. As the material begins to loosen up and hopefully creates more room inside the shoe, I plan on trying them out for basketball again to see if my current size will still work. I think this will give me a better understanding of whether the tight fit is something that improves over time or if sizing up is necessary. I think the overall design of the shoe looks great. The 3M LD logo on the tongue is a nice complement, and I like how the Jordan logo is smaller, which puts more emphasis on Luka’s personal branding. Since this is Luka’s signature shoe, I think this was a great design choice because it allows him to establish his own identity rather than having the Jordan brand be the main focus. The fabric and overall material quality are excellent, and I have no complaints in that area. However, I do have some concerns about the durability of the outsole design, particularly whether details such as the Jordan logo may wear off over time. I would need to wear the shoes more frequently to determine how well these details hold up. What I like most about the shoe is the color of the outsole. It adds a different tone to the overall design without taking away from the original colorway. I think Nike could experiment with more unique colors, such as lime green paired with neutral colorways, because the contrast is visually appealing and makes the shoe stand out. Overall, I think the Luka 5 is a great looking basketball shoe with excellent materials and supportive cushioning. The biggest improvement I would recommend is adjusting the inner cushioning to create more room inside the shoe without sacrificing support. This would make the shoe much more comfortable, especially for basketball players who need flexibility and room for movement. I look forward to seeing whether breaking them in improves the fit enough for me to comfortably play basketball in my usual size 9.5.

  • Tighter than normal.

    Slick

Fit and feel: As an avid basketball player buying basketball shoes is pretty normal for me. The Luka 5s were very cushioned on the bottom, that was comfortable. However, there is so much heel cushioning that it pushes your foot forward. Size 10 normally fit me with a touch of room at the end of the toes. Running up and down the court, my toes were consistently being smushed into the toe wall at the top. This became painful at times. The traction on the shoe is good, but not the best I’ve hooped in. I felt planted for the most part with only a few minor slips. Overall it’s a solid basketball shoe, but not the one I would hoop in the most. One would perhaps need to go a half size up for a better fit. If you prefer a slimmer/lighter shoe, I wouldn’t choose these. Design: they’re not the first shoes that’s going to grab my eyes’ attention if I was at a store or online. The coolest part of the shoe was the reflective tongue that really shines with the flash of the camera. Fabric: I expected the fabric/sole to be a little more premium given they are Luka 5s but it did not look as premium as I thought it would be. My favorite part was the reflective tongue but the fit is my least favorite part. Hard to run up and down the court when your toes keep slamming into the end of the toe box.

  • Performance Jordan’s are BACK

    Jake

I have heard about Jordan basketball shoes being top tier when it comes to performance but haven’t ever owned a pair. I’ve had plenty of Jordan retro shoes and mostly associate them with discomfort and premium materials and styles. Due to the discomfort of retro styles I incorrectly assumed their performance lines would be uncomfortable. I no longer believe this. Playing in the Luka 5’s was one of the best on court experiences I’ve had with a basketball shoes being top in a long time. For reference I have a basketball shoe rotation including Kds, LeBrons, Kobe’s and multiple other Nike signature shoes. The Luka 5 was the best overall basketball shoe I’ve played in over the last decade. I thought the shoe locked my foot in extremely well. You could probably play with these shoes untied, they were so snug and personally that’s what I want in a basketball shoe. I thought the grip was awesome and the cushioning was excellent as well. Now for the negatives of this shoe. I have held a long belief that Jordan shoes that aren’t retros don’t sell due to the logo placement on the shoe. The Jumpman logo isn’t dynamic on a shoe due to the shape. The placement of the Jordan logo detracts from the design of the shoe and the shoe would look better without it or on the Achilles heel/back of the shoe (similar to the 3 and 4). Due to it being on the lateral side near the toe box and so small, I think this shoe would benefit without it altogether. Almost all of the most popular Jordan models lacked a medial or lateral jumpman logo. The only aspect I really didn’t enjoy on this shoe was the tongue. I typically enjoy a thicker tongue as opposed to a thin one but this tongue didn’t sit well when laced and would bunch in a way that wasn’t aesthetically pleasing. This didn’t affect the performance or comfort of the shoe but it did affect the on foot look of the shoe. Everyone that saw these shoes either on me or in the box had a negative comment about the design of the shoe. I actually like the lines and materials of the shoe and only had issues with the looks of the shoe that I touched on earlier. Overall I would absolutely recommend these to my players (I coach middle school students) and others that play basketball as my on court experience was wonderful.
