Great shoe, but definitely not waterproof

I recently bought another pair of the Nike Pegasus 41 GORE-TEX, but I'm starting to have serious doubts about the waterproofness of these shoes. I previously owned both the Pegasus Trail 5 GORE-TEX and Pegasus 41 GORE-TEX. With both pairs, my feet got (very) wet after simply walking in the rain. The water clearly came through the upper, not through the opening around the ankle. I initially thought my Trail 5 might just have been defective, but experiencing exactly the same issue with the Pegasus 41 makes me wonder if this is a more common problem. I really like the Pegasus, which is why I bought another pair. But for a shoe explicitly sold as waterproof and using GORE-TEX, I would expect my feet to stay dry during a normal rain shower. Has anyone else experienced this?
