Heel-to-toe drop, sometimes known as offset, in running shoes is determined by measuring the stack height (the distance from the foot to the ground) at the heel and forefoot and then subtracting the forefoot height from the heel height. Running shoes with a higher drop create a more cushioned feel, while running shoes with a lower drop deliver a minimalist and closer to barefoot feel.
