What is up with the tongue

Super cute! They just arrived so I have not worn them yet. I ran here to read the reviews. What is going on with the tongue of the shoes?! I assumed it was a flaw with mine, but I’m reading others had the same concern. Nike, what is with the design? Did you think people what actually like this? I will most likely keep them, but I’m super disappointed

These are cute but I didn’t expect the exposed foam on the tongue…I’m not a sneakerhead so not sure if this is a normal thing. But overall enjoy the look of these! They’re a little narrow but otherwise true to size
