I was a happy owner of the original Ultrafly. I used them only for races and they held up brilliantly for their 800km, but then the sole started falling apart and the fabric edges on the sides of the sole tore. After that experience, I expected nothing but the best from the new Ultrafly. Here's my battle-tested review after 100km and +9000m of elevation gain at Canfranc-Canfranc. Pros: 1) cushioning! 2) durability!! held up against all the sharp rocks. 3) traction. The Vibram outsole works great. Cons: 1) the heel shifts around, there's no way to lock it in properly. This puts extra strain on the joints and ligaments, especially on traverses. 2) tall stack of foam under the heel — you will roll your ankle, guaranteed and more than once. 3) the lacing + "tongue." On descents the laces dig into the instep even through the tongue. I tried lacing it different ways (tight, loose, in between) — same result every time. Summary: better suited for shorter trails (20-50km). On a long race they caused way too many problems. I'll experiment with the lacing and hope I can get rid of the pain.
