Q&A with Veneda Carter

The Nike Muse

For her first-ever Nike collaboration, Danish-born fashion designer, stylist, and model Veneda Carter brings the future-forward Air Max Muse deep into her past, exploring the textures of the Warsaw flea markets she experienced when visiting family in Poland. We sat down with her to hear more about her creative roots and how they influenced the shoe.

Q: Can you introduce yourself and what do you do?

A: I’m a designer, stylist, creative, and model. I began my career in front of the camera, starting modeling at 13, which gave me an early understanding of fashion from the inside out. In my 20s, I moved to Los Angeles and transitioned into styling where I discovered my love for shaping stories through clothing. That eventually evolved into designing, beginning with jewelry and now expanding into broader categories - allowing me to bring my own visual language to life. I've also collaborated with other brands on design projects, which has been a natural extension of my creative practice.

Q: Having grown up in Denmark but spending a lot of time in Warsaw, how did that impact your style?

A: The intermix between these two cities and cultures has had a huge influence on how I approach style. Denmark gave me a foundation of clean lines, minimalism, and a sense of intentionality. Everything is functional, refined, and understated. In contrast, my time in Warsaw introduced a very different energy— Eastern European style is more raw, bold, and expressive. There's a kind of toughness and edge to it that feels less polished and more instinctive. Blending those two perspectives has definitely shaped my aesthetic. I’m drawn to contrasts: sharp vs soft, structured vs undone, simplicity layered with statement. I think my style lives somewhere in that tension.

Q: How would you describe your approach and work in the fashion space?

A: My approach to fashion is rooted in instinct, I feel like I’m drawn to pieces that evoke a feeling before anything else. With styling, I love to play with bold proportions, unexpected silhouettes, and rich textures. I’m constantly exploring how fabric moves and how shape can distort or exaggerate the body. There’s a freedom in dressing that I deeply value and I always aim to balance visual strength with a sense of ease and wearability. I’m interested in building looks that feel lived-in, powerful, and personal.

Q: How did your love of utilitarian outerwear inspire this colorway? And were there any other inspirations?

A: I’ve always been drawn to utilitarian design, especially the functional materials and textures that come with it. This palette also ties back to the brutalist architecture of the apartment building in Warsaw where my father grew up and I now own. The bright pink was my way of creating tension. It brings in a layer of sport and femininity— an unexpected contrast that energizes the look.

Q: What is/are your personal favorite detail(s) on the shoe?

A: My favorite part is the reflective green bubbles, they catch light in an unexpected and playful way. And of course, the lace tip. It’s a meaningful detail with my signature jewelry texture which feels like a full circle moment to incorporate into the design.
