GIANNI LEE

GIANNI LEE

When Gianni Lee looked at the logo, he saw an opportunity to tell a story. A futuristic story of womanhood from the perspective of a man.

“The blue figure is an ancestral being that crash landed on earth. Ancestral, meaning they were already on earth, but they came back, and they invade bodies. When they invade bodies, the body is only blue from the neck down. Basically, they're empowering the people that they invade.”

But let’s bring it back down to earth for a minute. Gianni got his start in Philly, where art followed him from Kindergarten all the way to the present, shifting from streetwear to straight illustration to street art, all via his drawing, painting and unlimited creative spirit.

Now he’s in Brooklyn, feeding off of the energy of the borough, where he relies on the street to inspire him above all else.

“We watch these preachers and gurus on Instagram tell us what we should and shouldn't do. But really if you just listen yourself and go outside into the world, you'll gain a lot of that same inspiration. It can be anything. The smell, the taste of the food, the random Spanish guy on the corner cussing out his homie. Moments like that make me excited to go back in and just download everything I just took in and put it on canvas.”

It’s all there in his work, from ancestral warriors to Spanish guys cussing in the street.

D'ANA OF COVL

D'ANA OF COVL

“I want to just encapsulate that childlike imagination. Playing back into water and fluidity while also channeling my spirit animal.”

Everything D’ana does is an expression of fluidity. Ideas of adaptation, change and living in the moment all show up in her work, so it should be no surprise that her spirit animal is the living embodiment of those ideas.

“My spirit animal is the octopus. I love that they're able to adapt and change at a moment's notice.”

As she approached the Nike Sport Pack logo, the idea of flow was not just novel, it was vital. From finding inspiration on Canal Street to fond memories of the beach with her mom to the intense pressure of over analysis to the happy memory of her father blazing a trail for her in his crisp Monarchs, she let the past flow into the present, creating the future of NSW.

“Just taking this canvas and being and apply yourself without any kind of constraint or boundaries, I think that has been the most gratifying part of this project.”

The future on two legs, inspired by the energy of eight.

BANDULU STREET COUTURE

BANDULU STREET COUTURE

“I would constantly ruin whatever I liked with art supplies and stuff.”

The first Bandulu Street Couture pieces were accidents. As an art student, Pat Peltier wouldn’t change clothes for the studio, so paint splatters were as inevitable as the inspiration that followed.

“I was fixing a stain and I was like ‘Oh it's making a little piece of art out of this splatter, it's making something worthwhile out of this stain’ so I started to do it myself. Just on my own things.”

In Pat’s paint-covered hands, the Nike Sport Pack logo became a fresh canvas, with his signature splatters leading the way for his needle and thread.

“I viewed the logo flip as a painting. Make it like you're filling this box. But it's not like I'm painting. I'm gonna embroider.”

The result is a creation that is embodies the Bandulu spirit. What started as ruin became renewal.
