KATELIN SISSON

The rumors are true. Katelin Sisson is a superhuman disguised as a mere mortal. Do not let the charm or ability to relate fool you. She is the sharpest tool in the shed. The mission behind the brand she is co-founder of with Heather Lilleston appears simple. Yoga For Bad People exists to “provide a combination of the traditional style yoga retreat with time for other activities not falling under the category of yoga. We are normal people. We want to have fun. And we like yoga.” This sounds normal until you dig a little deeper into Katelin and her story. Originally from Newport, RI, Yoga For Bad People has allowed Katelin to motivate those who want to create the balance between ideal and comfort in their lives all around the world. Whether it is a class stateside or an island beachfront, her humor or Instagram posts,Katelin has set out to add spice to the yoga world for people who understand that health and wellness start from within. We had a chance to sit and speak with Katelin about her passion, style and what it means to be the new reason why bad means good.

What is your ideal workout look from head to toe?
Great fitting long solid color tights. Bare foot for yoga. Light weight sneakers for fitness.
Bralette, meaning a longer style sports bra that can be a shirt if I want it to be. a perfect sweatshirt or small jacket for after hand.

What are some things you do to keep/maintain an active lifestyle?
I bring a jump rope with me basically everywhere I go. You never know when you'll find a spare moment. I also talk about staying active a lot and encouraging others to do so, because if you keep something at the forefront of your mind it tends to stay relevant to your life.

If you could name one thing you hate about an uncomfortable sports bra, what would it be?
My feeling is that tight often gets mistaken for support. I can not stand when a sports bra is too tight. A flattened suffocated chest is not the answer. So that lower band being too tight is not cool.

Talk to us about the kind of coverage you need and your experience (good and/or bad).
I don't need anything super extreme. For yoga intense support doesn't seem necessary. That said a bra that you pop out of is not cool for yoga because we go upside down a lot.  I do also  jump a lot of rope which requires something a little more secure for sure. Basically it just needs to stay put.

At what point did sport become a part of your life?
From the start. I was playing team sports since 8 years old. Ran my first race at 11.
I obsessively watch soccer from '94-present.
I took up tennis a year ago and I would give anything to be able to play every day.

Do you remember your first bra fitting?
At the gap. I basically had no boobs. So embarrassing.

What’s the most important thing you look for in the design of the bra?
Simplicity and efficiency. Hold me in. Act like a shirt and a bra in one if you can. Then I will really love you.

In your opinion, what’s the most important aspect of the fit of your sports bra?
Neutrality is the feeling I am going for.

4 months pregnant, I walked into a lingerie store. I was in a early pregnancy BAD mood. My boobs were officially out of control I needed to walk in and deal with it myself. I wasn't really in the mood for guidance. The VERY NICE woman working at the store asked me if I needed help. I said no thank you. Then she asked again. Then she asked me my size. Then she asked my size again. Finally I said, (By accident) "ma'am, I have no idea what my size is. I am 4 months pregnant and nothing makes sense. Too many questions, F OFF!" Not my finest moment. Not very yoga, but in the end we both had a laugh about it. Thank God.
