[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The jersey looks better in hand and the weird design also looks better in person, but it takes some time to grow on you.

Behind the Design
Black represents the uncertainty the Lakers felt upon arriving in Los Angeles. The trim goes from purple to black to purple as a nod to the sky after a California sunset, while the triangle script throws it back to the Lakers’ early days in LA. The number set is the same style that was seen on their jerseys from 1999-2017, which highlighted another period of growth and change for the Lakers and LA.

Our NBA City Edition collection celebrates the bond between a team and the town they call home. We took inspiration from iconic symbols and past uniforms to highlight the unique cultures, communities and history that give your favorite franchise local pride.

How This Was Made
- The recycled polyester used in Nike products begins as recycled plastic bottles, which are cleaned, shredded into flakes and converted into pellets. From there, the pellets are spun into new, high-quality yarn used in our products, delivering peak performance with a lower impact on the environment.
- In addition to reducing waste, recycled polyester reduces carbon emissions by up to 30% compared to virgin polyester. Nike diverts an average of 1 billion plastic bottles annually from landfills and waterways.

Lebron James Los Angeles Lakers City Edition
Only In Your City
Los Angeles is the City of Dreams, and the Lakers’ Nike NBA 2023-24 City Edition uniform symbolizes how those dreams (and its identity) have evolved for this team over the last six decades.

The all-black uniform represents the uncertainty the Lakers felt when they first moved to L.A. in the 1960’s after their success in Minneapolis, which included five NBA Championships. The only way to imagine what they could be was to close their eyes and picture it in their minds. The trim goes from purple to black to purple, similar to the skyline after a California sunset.

The Lakers’ triangle wordmark is a throwback to those early basketball days in L.A., while the font on the number set is a nod to the jerseys worn between 1999 and 2017 — highlighting another period of growth and change for the team and city.
