MEET THE SELEÇÃO FEMININA
BRASIL WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM
Combining a creative, relentless attack with a joyful love of the game, Brasil’s women—the Seleção Feminina—have been one of the most successful South American soccer teams since they began playing in 1986. Having placed third at the world’s biggest tournament in 1999 and second in 2007, the team is hungry for a first-place finish.
Keep an eye on these players as they lead the Seleção Feminina in France.
Andressa Alves leads the offensive charge with a versatile attacking style, ready to show out on the world stage.
ADRIANA LEAL DA SILVA
Adriana Leal da Silva already has a league title under her belt with her Brasilian club, Corinthians. She’ll be taking her game to yet another level in the tournament with an eye on expanding her trophy case.
ANDRESSA CAVALARI MACHRY
Andressa Cavalari Machry, also known as “Andressinha,” has an elite ability to control and determine the pace of the game. Her blend of playmaking and scoring from distance make her a constant threat in the attacking line.
Beatriz Zaneratto was the team’s top scorer in Rio 2016. The left-footed striker brings a dangerous blend of power and stamina against any defensive scheme.
The women’s home jersey is an exclusive version of the nation’s sacred yellow kit—its Samba Gold is a cultural symbol that transcends soccer—and introduces green accents on the cuffs.
The away kit features a constellation of stars that pays homage to the legend of indigenous Brasilian warriors who, according to lore, turn into stars of the night sky after they die. However, the most powerful statement is printed inside the jersey as a source of inspiration to the players who wear it: “Mulheres Guerreiras do Brasil,” which means “Warrior Women of Brasil.”
