‘GODDESS OF VICTORY’ COLLECTION

As the world’s best contend for glory this summer, a symbol of strength will be at their feet: The ‘Goddess of Victory’ cleats. We caught up with lead graphic designer, Jessica Tresser, to see what went into creating a collection inspired by the biggest event in women’s soccer.

INSPIRATION FROM WITHIN

The cleats’ muse could only be Nike herself, says Tresser and her team. The Greek Goddess of Victory both serves as our company’s namesake and embodies the power of competition. “It was a really cool opportunity for us to embrace a story only we can tell,” says Tresser. The feather pattern that appears on the cleats is the result of that inspiration. “We wanted to represent this idea of armor on the shoe,” she says. “It's not a soft wing. These shoes are going out to battle.”

FOR EVERY NATION

Not only do the cleats have to look tough, they have to be versatile enough to coexist with the home and away jerseys of 24 nations. The solution? Armory Blue. The dark, stone-like hue conveys grit and fortitude, no matter what color is on top. “Each country’s kit has its own unique identity,” says Tresser. “So it's nice that the footwear has its own as well.”
