A STYLE OF HIS OWN

You can’t talk about Neymar without the word, ‘style’ coming up. His beautiful rhythmic football has drawn as much love from his fans as it’s drawn critique from his haters. His game, like that of all Mercurial players is rooted in a love for playing with the ball, and a drive for scoring goals. “I think that being a Mercurial player means that you are different. Because you have to be fast. You have to be skillful, you have to score goals. You basically have to be complete.”

BE HUMBLE

“My playing style is different. I think, is wanting to win. Every game, I do everything to win,” says Neymar Jr. But that doesn’t mean it’s a one-man-show. Despite the Brasilian’s phenomenal individual talent, he holds humility for the full squad. “On the field, it is 11 against 11. Everybody is working for the same thing. No-one is worth more, no-one is worth less,” he says. “You have to think collectively. The individual comes automatically after that.”

INSPIRED BY THE GREATS

With a strong-headed will to reach the top, Neymar’s rise in international football was inevitable — but never easy. “I always wanted to be number 1. To be the best and to always do well,” he says. It’s no wonder the athletes he admires, are some of the hardest-working people in sport: Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. The lessons he took from the basketball stars taught him dedication and perseverance. “You cannot be pessimistic, ever,” he explains. “However difficult your goal and your path may be, you have to say: ‘I’m gonna get there.’ If you do, great, if you don’t, you go again.”
