The Mercurial mindset means always aiming for the top. For star Dutch midfielder Lieke Martens that mentality started early. “I always wanted to be the best and I always wanted to push myself,” she says.
As a young girl Martens constantly played with the football, trying to emulate Ronaldinho’s tricks in the Jogo Bonito videos while her brothers played pick-up games with friends. The more she trained, the better she got, and eventually she went from tagalong sister to first-picked.
Fast-forward to 2017, when Martens lifted the European championship for the Netherlands Women’s National Team and was dubbed not only player of the tournament, but of the entire season. It’s clear her Mercurial attitude is here to stay.
FEEL GOOD. PLAY FAST.
Growing up playing with her older brothers, Lieke had to beat them with speed. “I’ve learned a lot, because I needed to do everything much quicker than them,” she says. “I think Mercurial is something special. If you see the players who are playing on it, they are all something special. They all have some speediness.” The Mercurial didn’t invent speed, but it perfected it. With over twenty years of innovation at its back, the boot is a definitive symbol of the fast-footed.
Nike’s brightest colorway on football’s fastest cleat. The Volt Mercurial 360 “Fury” was only a matter of time. The most visible color to the human eye, it was the perfect match for the Mercurial play style of Lieke Martens. “With this shoe you need to be fast, you need to be doing tricks. Because, this shoe is so shiny on the pitch everyone is seeing you.”
