How This Was Made

  • The recycled polyester used in Nike products begins as recycled plastic bottles, which are cleaned, shredded into flakes and converted into pellets. From there, the pellets are spun into new, high-quality yarn used in our products, delivering peak performance with a lower impact on the environment.
  • In addition to reducing waste, recycled polyester produces up to 30% lower carbon emissions than virgin polyester. Nike diverts an average of 1 billion plastic bottles annually from landfill and waterways.

Running with the ability to bring my phone on me in case of emergencies and to sometimes stream to my headphones is a must. Rear center pockets to hold my phone are my preference over any side pocket as I feel balanced and it’s not in the way in the back. I’ve invested in three pairs of Nike Challenger shorts that feature a rear center pocket with a snap button that does the job well, easily fitting my iPhone 12 with an Otterbox Symmetry and have held up to repeating use. Wanted some pants for the colder winter runs and decided to give these a try. With a rear zipper instead of a snap button, the phone fit is more tight than the Chlallenger shorts — I’m able to store my phone but it’s a little bit of a stretch. I don’t plan to try to remove my phone mid-run with these as I do with my shorts on occasion. Phone pocket size being a little tight set aside, the fit and feel on these pants so far have been great for running. They provide a little bit of stretch and I don’t feel weighted down by them at all during runs. Wearing 29W 32L jeans, I went with a size small with a little bit of hesitation when ordering but the size turns out perfect for me. A slightly bigger rear pocket (or Nike at least posting rear pocket dimensions for us folks) would make this a full 5 stars. Still I appreciate Nike being one of the few brands to offer center rear pockets.

  • Comfort and style — and utility

    Not A Great Runner - 01 Mar 2022

The two things I value the most in a pant is utility and comfort. A close third is style. These pants deliver on all 3 fronts. The material on this pant is a dri-fit style fabric that is lightweight and stretchy. They feel like they would dry very quickly if wet (I don’t sweat that much so I can’t say for sure). The lightweight feel actually made me feel like I wasn’t really wearing pants at all, which was great for exercise. Utility wise I really like the two side zipper pockets, but especially this hidden back zipper pocket (for a phone I assume) that was centered on the top back of the pants. I’ve had hidden pockets before for a phone, but being in the compression shirt on one thigh always kind of messed with my equilibrium. Being directly in the center was very cool. (One issue with the side zipper pocket was that my phone would continually fall out if I didn’t zip it close). As far as style I like both the blue and the accents of orange. My favorite thing though, was the kind of stretchy pleats at the ankle. Not only did this make it so the pant was tapered, but it was easy to get my foot in and out because of the stretch (unlike a woven material where you have to really tug to get your foot in and out). Overall, great pant I could definitely see getting use not just for running, but for cross training or even lounging around the house because they’re just THAT comfortable.
