The AJ 2 was the very first luxury approach in all of athletic footwear. It was breaking boundaries, being made in Italy and crafted in a way that other shoes just weren't. These things are just beautifully simple but complex at the same time.

Half of people hate them and then the other half of people love them. I think that's what provocation is, right? Both brands, Jordan and Off-White™, hold craft in very high regard. So, I feel like the marriage of the two makes sense.

The Off-White™ inspiration of AJ 2 was this idea of pulling a shoe straight from the archives. If you pulled the AJ 2 out of a time capsule, what would it look like naturally?

The idea itself was incredibly difficult, we tried so many different things. We were able to take an old archive sample that MJ actually interacted with and signed.

The crumbling midsole is gone. So we had to take a three-dimensional scan. We then took that information to create a new piece that would then mould over it.

So this is the skeletal piece that came from the scan of the original shoe. All of the cracks and crevices are real.

You have a leather vamp, the Off-White™ laces. You have just a very radical difference in the left cracking than you do on the right, which is inherent to what would happen in real life.

The connection between luxury, fashion and sneakers is the heartbeat of streetwear. AJ 2, it's not like any of the other Retros. And in this age where the world and culture is a sea of sameness, it's really important to be different.

The difference between a trendsetter and someone that is just going to follow the group is the lack of fear when it comes to your own personal taste.
