Using the phrase like 'Run Like No One is Watching', but then having the two eyes on the shoes, that like that paradox that we already have

as people with this not wanting to be judged, not wanting to be looked at, but then also wanting to be seen. I'm Melitta Baumeister, and this is Behind the Design of my collection with Nike.

When I'm working on the project, it's really about getting my hands dirty. I don't do mood boards, I don't work on the computer. It's really doing things in the physical. Gluing things together, painting, 

kind of like bringing elements together that sorts of fit in a way or are surprising in a way. So it's really a sculptural approach where it's doing things with your hands.

I design for mainly creative women, women that express themselves with clothes, women that want to have a voice, that want to be in the room in a certain way.  

The Vomero and Pegasus are both performance shoes , but are such different characters

that this was really fun to work with. Like mixing really sports with a handcraft treatment felt very fashion to me. I'm most proud of the amount of details that the shoe has. It sort of reads like a book.

Painting the shoe by hand makes each item unique. There are no two pairs that are exactly the same. The painting process was something that we were doing for our own collections. We were painting denim, jeans, and always,

items that have quite a lot of seaming and kind of a lot of details. So you have the eyelets, you have the laces, you have so many corners on the shoes, so it was a perfect item to also paint with this technique. 

This Vomero itself had two cutouts on the outsole, so it made sense to place two eyes. And when you're running, it kind of looks at the person behind you, which I thought was fun.

There's a lot of details on this shoe, but the MB swoosh is the symbol of the world we're building together with Nike.
