Letzte Aktualisierung: 6. April 2021  Die meisten Athleten achten sehr darauf, was sie zu sich nehmen. Mit der falschen Ernährung kann es während des Trainings schnell zu Magenproblemen kommen. Die richtige Ernährung hingegen steigert die Leistungsfähigkeit und unterstützt die Regeneration. Bei der Frage, ob Pflanzen genügend Proteine für den Muskelaufbau liefern und ob eine fleischlose Ernährung bei bestimmten Sportarten sogar von Vorteil sein kann, gehen die Meinungen auseinander. Eine im *Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition* veröffentlichte Studie lässt jetzt darauf schließen, dass eine vegane Ernährung keine negativen Auswirkungen auf die Leistung hat. Deutsche Wissenschaftler haben eine Gruppe bestehend aus 76 männlichen und weiblichen Freizeitläufern untersucht. Sie ernährten sich entweder mit Fleisch und pflanzlichen Lebensmitteln (Omnivore), waren Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarier (pflanzliche Lebensmittel sowie Eier und Milchprodukte, aber kein Fleisch und kein Fisch) oder vegan (keinerlei Lebensmittel tierischen Ursprungs). Alle Teilnehmer führten einen Belastungstest auf einem Ergometer durch, um die maximale Leistungsgrenze zu ermitteln, also festzustellen, wie intensiv und lange sie trainieren können. Nach einem 6-minütigen Warm-up bei einem Widerstand von 50 Watt (das entspricht Stufe 1 bis 2 auf einer Leistungsskala von 10) wurde der Widerstand pro Minute um 16,7 Watt gesteigert, bis die Teilnehmer die Pedale nicht länger bewegen konnten. Welche Gruppe schnitt besser ab? Alle Teilnehmer erreichten ihr Leistungslimit nach ca. 20 Minuten. Die Forscher stellten fest, dass es keinen Leistungsunterschied zwischen Omnivoren und Lacto-Ovo-Vegetariern gibt und dass Veganer problemlos mithalten können. "Die Trainingskapazität von Freizeitläufern wir nicht von der Art ihrer Ernährung bestimmt, solange sie genügend Energie und Nährstoffe zu sich nehmen", erklärt Josefine Nebl, Studienautorin und Postdoc-Forscherin am Institut für Lebensmittelwissenschaft und Humanernährung der Leibniz Universität Hannover ## "Die Forscher stellten fest, dass es keinen Leistungsunterschied zwischen Omnivoren und Lacto-Ovo-Vegetariern gibt und dass Veganer problemlos mithalten können." Die Studienteilnehmer ernährten sich innerhalb der letzten 24 Stunden vor dem Test sehr unterschiedlich. Veganer zum Beispiel nahmen nach eigenen Angaben mehr Kohlenhydrate, Ballaststoffe, Magnesium, Eisen, Folsäure und Vitamin E zu sich, dafür aber weniger Fett und Vitamin B12 als die Fleischesser und Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarier. Doch solange sie dieselbe Menge an hochwertigen Kalorien erhielten, waren die Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarier und Veganer genauso gut auf das Training vorbereitet wie die Fleischesser, fasst Nebl zusammen.
