How Do I Stop My Big Boobs From Hurting When I Workout?

If you’re bigger-busted then you probably know the fear that comes with running, jumping, or bouncing. Ever been told to do jumping jacks when you’re not wearing the right sports bra? It’s every big-boobed girl’s nightmare–the breast pain is real, and it can be enough to stop you from moving at all.

But we got you, and we’re here with the queen of plus-size body confidence Trina Nicole, to show you how to bounce with confidence. From finding the right fit, to picking the comfiest fabric, Trina breaks it down for all us hunnies packing extra bounce.

Repeat After Us: Support, Fit and Fabric

Yes, Trina, thanks for unpacking the basics of plus-size jiggling without the discomfort. Like Trina says, support is your priority. The bigger the bust the bigger the bounce, so you need firm fitting fabrics that lovingly hug the breasts to your body and minimise movement. That’s what high support bras do best. They’re designed using fabrics with a higher elasticity, so your breasts are encased in support.

A well-fitting sports bra is your next biggie. Do the fit test with us now:

1) Can you fit two fingers comfortably between your ribcage and the bra’s underband? If it’s too much of a squeeze, then go up a size. If it’s too loose, then go down a size. The underband moving when you move is what leads to chafing. You want an underband that stays put as you move so there’s no irritation against your skin.

2) Can you fit two fingers between each strap and your shoulder? The support comes from the underband more than the straps, but still, if they’re too loose then you’ll notice your girls jiggling way more. Go for a style with adjustable straps so you can keep yours nice and sturdy.

3) Check for spillage. Any spillage can lead to chafing as the bra digs in. If you’re pouring out at the top or sides, then try going up a cup size.

4) Do the bounce test. If your boobs move too much when you move, then this isn’t the bra for you, and you might want a higher support level.

Trial and error is your best bet with bras as all women are different and all styles vary.

Finally, like Trina called out, fabric can make or break a bra. Nike sports bras often use Dri-FIT technology to stop sweat from irritating you as you work out. Look for bras that absorb moisture to keep you dry.
