After having both previous iterations of the Nike Wildhorse Trail Running shoe (the 6s and 7s) i was a little apprehensive due to the 8s not having the in-built 'ankle sock' feature, which i really liked. However, the 8s are comfier and the lack of ankle sock is no significant loss. The 8s also feel significantly lighter than their predecessors. Like the 6s and 7s the Wildhorse 8s have a suitably roomy toe box, but which didn't create too much movement or rubbing during my first 50km ultra in them. One recommendation would be slightly more toe protection: from accidentally kicking stones, etc. Overall, due to the extra comfort and sponginess, this shoe is ideal for those long trail runs / ultras in which there are also short sections of road running.

I've always been a Nike fan but have steered away from some of their hiking/trail running options in the past since many models that I've tried had serious issues with traction. When I saw these, they reminded me of a similar silhouette to the Altra lone peaks and since they had my favorite React cushion I figured I'd give them a try and I couldn't be more happy with them. The traction is incredible and the cushioning feels incredible without feeling unstable. The mesh is ver breathable and the toe box has plenty of room to allow your toes to spread out while in stride. Despite the extra room, the lockdown feels great with the heelcup being very supportive. Also, not sure if this is for every pair but the packaging included a Nike trail sticker which was a very nice touch.

Straight out of the box I truly enjoyed the Nike Wildhorse 8. Fit: True to size, ran exact to my normal size. Comfort: Took them for a run the first time putting them on. I was impressed that there were no hot spots and didn’t require a break in period. Not only that, I wore them walking around the city and they were great to wear all day. Look: Sleek without any distracting images on the sides. Enjoyed the black and grey look. Running/walking: Responsive underfoot while being protective of rocks and uneven trails. Glad to use these on both the trail and pavement.
