SNKRS Style: Kukini special with Goodhood

I’m Paolo and I’m one of the founders of The Basement - a London-based community. 

Kukini, for me, is one of those obscure ‘ugly but good’ sneakers that Nike has churned out through the years which I have a big fascination with.

The Kukini are a bit of me because they’re the perfect balance of chill, but a little wild. I also like how functional and aerodynamic they are.


These days, practicality and comfort are key in my styling choices like to be able to throw things on and head out early, and be out all day. If it happens to look sleek, all the better. I need a shoe that is breathable, that I can walk all day in and then be ready to do whatever the day throws up.

Deeply rooted in the 00s and staying true to that era, we’re big fans of the Nike Kukini here at Goodhood.

It’s a shoe that reminds us of the halcyon era of Ura-Harajuku style and a time when imported Japanese magazines were bibles of style and information.

From earth-tone technical dressing and Tokyo-ready streetstyle, to Goodhood-esque relaxed fits and utilitarian womenswear.

The mix of this outlandish pattern and technical webbing of the Kukini makes it extremely versatile, hitting different touchpoints across different styles with ease and making the silhouette an instant winner on its long-overdue return.
