SNKRS PRESENTS: Nike Air Lab at Milano Design Week

Hey guys, I'm Giada, I'm a curator and project leader at Dropcity. Hey I'm Alex, I'm a Nike Design Senior Manager for BRS and Community. Today we're at Nike Air Lab, which is a collaboration between Nike and Drop

city for a Milano Design Week. We decided to do something a little bit different that was not a conventional exhibition. This is the Air Lab, and we started from a very simple premise that air is not just secondary, it's not nothing, but it's
part of our creative process.

The idea of design process was something that was really important to us when designing this exhibition, and that's something we brought into this space. The Air Archive. Frank Rudy is sort of the first originator of

Air. If you're in the archive, you see all of his failed experiments as well as things that didn't work out. So I think that in sense of experimentation and play and not being afraid to take risks or fail is something that is

still pretty prevalent at Nike today. We have 48 drawers in total in the archive. And above these drawers we have over 120 original air units. One of my favorites, the Air Max 95 here. With original sketches from Sergio

Lozano. This is a drawer about the Nike Vomero Premium, which only just released, and we have various samples and prototypes from that process. This is the ACG AirVantage jacket from 2006. Which was the first time that Nike started working with air

as sort of an inflation tool within apparel. I'm Golnaz Armin. I lead the Nike Design Studio. Within our Air Innovation tunnel, we are focusing on two new technologies for our apparel. We're looking at

Flyweb in a new two tone color execution, which is our 3D printed bra. No sweat retention. Similar to that idea; how can we bring these lightweight structures into our footwear? One of the prototypes of the Liquid Max. You can

See, there's many iterations, evolutions, explorations that are part of our design process that goes into a finished product. As you can see in this table, air can live within footwear and apparel in completely new and different ways.
As we were

building this exhibition, making sure that we are leaving a legacy behind. So instead of being just a temporary exhibition for the Design Week. It's actually becoming part of the infrastructure of the city.
