MEET THE FOOTBALL FERNS
NEW ZEALAND WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
The New Zealand women's national team is headed to France for their fourth consecutive tournament appearance. With a team of experienced veterans and young talent, they are ready to prove themselves on the world stage. Fittingly, on their chest is the silver fern, a symbol of the country that, according to Māori legend, represents strength, resistance and power.
Keep an eye out for these players as they try to lead the Football Ferns to a world title.
Captain of the national team, with over 120 appearances for her country, Ali Riley operates as an energetic wingback.
Armed with speed, Hannah Wilkinson will look to get in behind the line of defence and use her pace to deliver goals.
The youngest player to debut for the Football Ferns, Annalie Longo is an attacking midfielder, creating plays from the centre line.
On each sleeve is a graphic of the fern, the team's namesake and a national symbol of New Zealand. The design itself is inspired by the unique underside of the tree's fronds, which reflect under moonlight, creating a natural nightlight that's celebrated for guiding travellers.
The away kit features the same design as the home kit, in an all-black iteration, a tradition for New Zealand's national teams.
