NIKE VAPORFLY 4% FLYKNIT The Vaporfly 4% Flyknit is an evolution of the
Zoom Vaporfly Elite, the shoe designed to help
Eliud Kipchoge attempt to break the 2-hour
marathon barrier. A carbon-fiber launchpad and
energetic foam combine for a propulsive feeling,
with 4% greater efficiency than our previous
fastest racing shoe.

FLYING INTO THE FUTURE
THE NIKE ZOOM VAPORFLY
ELITE FLYPRINT
The Nike Footwear Design team blended athlete
insight with the latest technology to push forward
the next generation of speed. Introducing the
Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elite Flyprint. Weighing 11g
lighter than the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4%, this 3D
printed shoe is fast-tracking the future of running
with a more breathable upper that boats almost
zero water retention.

FROM RAPID PROTOTYPE
TO RACE READY
As a technology, the full potential of 3D printing is
still being discovered. For the Footwear Design
team, the printer has been reserved as a tool to
help visualize and create rapid prototypes. Now,
for the first time ever, it's producing the final
product. Flyprint is a lighter, more breathable and
more water-resistant upper, not only that: 3D
printing compresses the time it would typically
take to go from prototype to final product from
weeks into days.

KENYA, HERE WE COME Eliud Kipchoge has continued to push the
boundaries of what others believe to be possible.
To say he shaped the final design of the Nike
Vaporfly 4% would be an understatement—not only
has he helped inform Nike running innovation, he's
been the inspiration for it.

After seeing Eliud at the 2017 Berlin Marathon and
how the Vaporfly 4% performed in such wet running
conditions, the Footwear Design team identified
ways in which the shoe could be improved.

With the goal of making a more water-resistant
product without compromising on performance, it
was time to go to Western Kenya. The city of
Eldoret sits at an altitude of about 8,000 feet. It's
home to some of the fastest runners on the planet,
including Eliud Kipchoge and his running camp.

FAST-PACED
PERFORMANCE
To get the comfort of the shoe, the friendliness of
the upper, how the 3D printed part holds my foot,
that's what I was looking for in this shoe". After
several rounds of feedback and fine-tuning to get
to the final product, Eliud says, "You feel like
flying when you're running. [There's] no impact
at all, no soreness on the muscles".
