BRAZIL WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM'S ANDRESSA ALVES
"Since my first steps, I've been kicking everything", says Andressa Alves. And she kept kicking—past bigger kids in São Paulo street games and past neighbours who told her the sport wasn't for girls. But she didn't listen. "They kept cursing, and I kept doing things", she says. Her dedication to the game made her what she is today: the first Brazilian woman to play for FC Barcelona.
Alves is remarkably versatile, moving from defender to attacking midfielder to forward throughout her career. She'll bring that adaptability and a fierce left foot to the Brazil Women's National Team as they chase their first world title. She'll also bring a passion for the team. "The Seleção is Brazil, it's millions of people cheering, it's your family", says Alves.
