How This Was Made

  • The recycled polyester used in Nike products begins as recycled plastic bottles, which are cleaned, shredded into flakes and converted into pellets. From there, the pellets are spun into new, high-quality yarn used in our products, delivering peak performance with a lower impact on the environment.
  • In addition to reducing waste, recycled polyester produces up to 30% lower carbon emissions than virgin polyester. Nike diverts an average of 1 billion plastic bottles annually from landfill and waterways.

Good Running Jacket for Freezing/Near-Freezing Temperatures

HaroldS259408647 - 15 Nov 2021

I’ve been using the jacket for a week now in temperatures around freezing with the Therma Fit Repel Element long sleeve shirt underneath. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. The jacket demonstrates an impressive amount of attention to detail and gives the impression of a high-quality, running specific, garment. I’m most pleased with the thumbhole/mitten feature of the sleeve. At around freezing, it is warm enough to eliminate the need for separate gloves and switches between “modes” easily. I have not tested the water repellant properties of the jacket. My only comments for constructive criticism would be 1) the main zipper and 2) the lack of a button closure to prevent the jacket from billowing when partially unzipped. Regarding #1, the main zipper is extremely tiny. It looks sleek, but I find it hard to get started. I wonder how durable it will be. Regarding #2, when running hard, it would be nice to unzip the jacket part of the way to ventilate without the wind causing it to billow open. A single button tab closure across the chest would be one example of an easy way to implement this feature. For sizing, I am 5’7” and 145# and wear a size small over a Nike Therm Fit Repel long sleeve shirt. The fit is tailored. If more room was desired for layering, a medium would probably be needed. Overall, another well thought-out product from Nike that makes those cold and dark early morning runs much more comfortable.
