Here's what's changed and who the shoe was built for. Last updated: 23 September 2026 6 min read Nike Pegasus Plus 2 is a light, responsive shoe, built for runners who want to feel fast, whether they're picking up the pace on a tempo run or logging everyday miles. You'll find a visible Air Zoom unit under the forefoot for an instant, spring-like pop with every stride, along with a full-length ZoomX midsole for a light ride that returns energy mile after mile. A locked-in fit stays true to the Pegasus you know, with a little more room up front. Pegasus Plus 2 was released in late August 2026 in its initial colourway and will be released in more colourway options on 1 October 2026, on Nike.com and at select retailers. ## Quick Takeaways - Pegasus Plus 2 exposes the forefoot Air Zoom unit instead of encasing it in foam, a change designed to unlock more of the pod's propulsion. - A full-length ZoomX foam midsole replaces the setup used in the Pegasus 42, meaning it's built for a lighter, more responsive ride. - A modified last (MR-10 2.0) adds forefoot room and toe spring while keeping the secure midfoot fit the Pegasus franchise is known for. - The engineered mesh upper is built to stay lightweight and breathable across tempo runs and daily miles. - Pegasus Plus 2 sits between the Pegasus 42 and Pegasus Premium in the road running line, built specifically for tempo runs, intervals and fast daily miles. - Release date: August 2026 to 1 October 2026 [](https://www.nike.com/be/en/w/pegasus-running-shoes-37v7jz8nexhzy7ok) ## What's New in Pegasus Plus 2 The Nike Pegasus Plus 2 features three key updates: an exposed forefoot Air Zoom unit, a fuller ZoomX midsole and a modified last built for more forefoot room. Together, these updates create the ideal shoe for tempo runs and daily training. Freeing the Air Zoom unit instead of covering it with foam lets the forefoot strike the air unit more directly. More direct loading equals greater propulsion. The Peg Plus 2 delivers 18% more energy return than the original Pegasus Plus. The addition of ultra-lightweight ZoomX foam to the midsole maximises speed and energy return, so no effort goes to waste. This translates to 10% less weight than the Pegasus 42. This update also incorporates a modified last (MR-10 2.0), designed for a roomier forefoot and toe spring without compromising the secure midfoot fit you expect from the Pegasus line. [](https://www.nike.com/be/en/w/pegasus-running-shoes-37v7jz8nexhzy7ok) [](https://www.nike.com/be/en/w/pegasus-running-shoes-37v7jz8nexhzy7ok) ## How the Air Zoom Pod Works The forefoot Air Zoom unit used in the [Pegasus franchise](https://www.nike.com/a/pegasus-history) is small yet mighty. It's packed with spring-like threads that contract and snap back instantly—like jumping off a trampoline. To provide an even greater boost, the Pegasus Plus 2 unit was designed to be both curved and exposed. Curving the unit shapes it to match the roll a propulsive plate provides, similar to the geometry used in racing shoes. And opening the unit, rather than encapsulating it in foam, allows you to direct more load into the air pocket for greater energy return. "The combination of a ZoomX midsole unit plus a forefoot Air Zoom unit works really well to give the runner a propulsive feeling from the forefoot", says Tomokazu Yuasa, Nike product manager. [](https://www.nike.com/be/en/w/pegasus-running-shoes-37v7jz8nexhzy7ok) ## Fit: What Changed From the Original Pegasus Plus Narrow fit was the most cited complaint on the original Pegasus Plus. That's why the MR-10 2.0 last was built to open up forefoot and toe-box space, giving Pegasus Plus 2 a more natural foot shape. While this shoe keeps the secure midfoot fit runners have come to expect from a Pegasus, it is not available in a wide-width option. ## Positioning Within the Pegasus Family How does the Pegasus Plus 2 compare to the [Pegasus 42](https://www.nike.com/a/pegasus-42-release-date) and [Pegasus Premium](https://www.nike.com/a/pegasus-premium-release-info)? It sits between the two, delivering fast, responsive miles and all-round versatility. To identify your best pick, here's a breakdown of each shoe in the Pegasus line: - __Pegasus 42:__ ReactX foam, full-length Air Zoom unit; best for everyday training and easy miles - __Pegasus Plus 2:__ Full-length ZoomX foam, exposed forefoot Air Zoom; best for [tempo runs](https://www.nike.com/a/tempo-running-workout-benefits), intervals and fast daily miles - __Pegasus Premium:__ ZoomX and ReactX foam; sculpted, full-length Air Zoom unit; best for maximum energy return for everyday training [](https://www.nike.com/be/en/w/pegasus-running-shoes-37v7jz8nexhzy7ok) ## Who Pegasus Plus 2 Is Built For The Peg 2 is built for runners who thrive on speed and perhaps even strive for a personal best in an upcoming marathon. From tempo runs and [intervals](https://www.nike.com/a/interval-training-running-benefits) to daily training miles, it's a single shoe that handles both faster efforts and everyday mileage. A bouncy, responsive feel keeps running fun without sacrificing performance. "The Pegasus runner trains at a faster jog and enjoys tempo training, so the Peg Plus 2 is going to make sure they can feel energy return from the ground super fast", Yuasa says. ## Frequently Asked Questions What is Nike Pegasus Plus 2?
