Ahead of this summer's historic women's football tournament in Australia and New Zealand, Nike is launching the Phantom Luna, a new football boot designed with female players at the centre of the process. The teams responsible for designing the boot spent more than two years on researching, trialling, designing and styling—all while collecting meaningful feedback from female athletes who tested different models of the boot. The player input led to a Nike Phantom Luna boot that offers the traction, fit and feel female footballers were seeking. Named Nike Cyclone 360, this underfoot traction pattern allows players to move with agility, precision and confidence throughout the match. "The Nike Cyclone 360 plate offers quickness to athletes, allowing them to feel confident when cutting and turning. We want them to play their best game ever", said Fiona Lesecq, Nike footwear designer. 2. # 2.Fit [](https://www.nike.com/au/w/football-shoes-1gdj0zy7ok) *Crystal Dunn, US Women's National Team* Phantom Luna's fit is also attuned to the female footballer. Featuring a new upper design, Nike Asym Fit, the boot features a snug fit around the ankle, which female players asked for throughout the research phase. "Luna is one of the most comfortable boots I've ever put on. It's really important as an athlete who's constantly moving to feel comfortable and secure", said Crystal Dunn, defender for the US Women's National Team. 3. # 3.Feel [](https://www.nike.com/au/w/football-shoes-1gdj0zy7ok) Because women's feet, on average, are smaller than male players' feet, women's boots require bigger touch zones for ball control and accuracy. Nike designers applied the brand's latest football innovation, Nike Gripknit, to the Phantom Luna upper for optimal boot-to-ball connection. The coating gives a sticky feeling and is integrated into the material, so the boot stays soft and pliable. "When you put your boots on, you can focus on your game, because Luna feels seamlessly integrated with your body and your movements on the pitch", said Emily Johnson, senior product line manager at Nike. Nike Phantom Luna Elite and Phantom Luna will be available from late June 2023 at Nike.com and selected retailers. ## Gear up for football [View All](https://www.nike.com/au/w/football-1gdj0) - [ \ Nike Mercurial Superfly 11 Elite \ Firm-Ground Low-Top Football Boot \ __$400__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/mercurial-superfly-11-elite-firm-ground-low-top-football-boots-zyIlQDI4/IF8507-100) - [ \ Nike Phantom 6 Low Elite \ Firm-Ground Football Boot \ __$360__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/phantom-6-low-elite-firm-ground-football-boot-fe8lMc10/HJ2146-100) - [ \ Nike Tiempo Maestro Elite \ Firm-Ground Low-Top Football Boot \ __$340__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/tiempo-maestro-elite-firm-ground-low-top-football-boots-L2Uv6z5V/HQ3157-100) - [ \ Nike Mercurial Superfly 11 Elite 'Sam Kerr' \ Firm-Ground Low-Top Football Boot \ __$410__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/mercurial-superfly-11-elite-sam-kerr-firm-ground-low-top-football-boots-SH77crv1/IO3790-300) - [ \ Nike Mercurial Superfly 11 Academy 'Sam Kerr' \ Multi-Ground High-Top Football Boot \ __$160__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/mercurial-superfly-11-academy-sam-kerr-multi-ground-high-top-football-boots-0XqoukJF/IQ7404-300) - [ \ Sam Kerr Strike \ Women's Nike Dri-FIT Football Shorts \ __$65__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/sam-kerr-strike-womens-nike-dri-fit-football-shorts-3ketvlOG/IO9354-084) - [ \ Sam Kerr \ Women's Nike Football T-Shirt \ __$60__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/sam-kerr-womens-nike-football-t-shirt-BX58ZM7m/IR7200-010) - [ \ Nike Mercurial Vapor 17 Elite \ Firm-Ground Low-Top Football Boot \ __$360__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/mercurial-vapor-17-elite-firm-ground-low-top-football-boots-CPcIOklO/IF8508-102) - [ \ Nike Phantom 6 Low Elite 'Erling Haaland' \ Firm-Ground Football Boot \ __$380__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/phantom-6-low-elite-erling-haaland-firm-ground-football-boot-fNxKIPZQ/HQ2332-401) - [ \ Nike Phantom 6 Low Academy 'Erling Haaland' \ Multi-ground Football Boot \ __$160__](https://www.nike.com/au/t/phantom-6-low-academy-erling-haaland-multi-ground-football-boot-TeorMc5T/HQ2314-401) Originally published: 7 June 2023 ## Related Stories - [](https://www.nike.com/au/a/nike-tiempo-legend-10) # Product news # Nike releases its new football boot, the Tiempo Legend 10 - [](https://www.nike.com/au/a/air-jordan-36-release-info) # Product news # Everything you need to know about the iconic Air Jordan XXXVI - [](https://www.nike.com/au/a/air-zoom-gt-cut-2-release-info) # Product news # The next leap in basketball innovation: Air Zoom G.T.
