Critics can't faze her. Gymnast Alexa Moreno is vaulting to the top of Mexico's list of athletes to watch. But she's not stopping there. Last updated: 14 October 2024 3 min read  In 2018, 24-year-old Alexa Moreno became the first Mexican female artistic gymnast to win a medal at the World Championships. Today, she's setting the stage for the next generation of female athletes and is committed to open new doors in sport.  __What inspires you as an athlete and/or as a woman?__ __ALEXA MORENO:__ As a woman, it is always great to see other women achieve beyond expectations. I admire female gymnasts who go above and beyond, and those who have managed to stand out, because I know there are many ways in which female participation in sport is limited. ## "If things don't work one way, try another. Don't assume it's impossible". —Alexa Moreno __What would you like to achieve during your career and what kind of future do you want to see?__ __ALEXA:__ I would like to open new doors for the next generation of athletes—by putting Mexico's name on the world stage. I want to set a precedent for future gymnasts, so that they don't have to break the same barriers. I want to build on my achievements and have a greater vision. I want them to say, "I'm a young female athlete too, and I can do it". The important thing is to persevere.
