Last updated: October 9, 2026 6 min read ## Quick Takeaways: - Rinse Nike jewelry with lukewarm water and mild soap after every workout or all-day wear to prevent buildup. - Use a jewelry-safe micro-polishing cloth for tarnish or dullness — never toothpaste, baking soda, or silver dips. We recommend our included Nike Jewelry polishing cloth as a safe option. - Gold vermeil pieces are sterling silver coated with 2.5 microns of 14K gold and include a built-in, anti-tarnish treatment. - Solid 14K gold with natural pave diamonds is the most durable Nike material, and it won’t tarnish with proper care. - Store pieces individually in pouches or a lined jewelry box with the included anti-tarnish strip. - Always put jewelry on last and take it off first to reduce exposure to lotions, perfume, and sweat. To clean Nike jewelry, rinse the piece under lukewarm water, apply a small amount of gentle soap, gently rub with your fingers, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry with a soft cloth. For tarnish or dullness, finish by buffing with a jewelry-safe micro-polishing cloth. Cleaning after workouts or extended wear helps prevent sweat and oil buildup. __Supplies:__ - Mild detergent or soap __Tools:__ - Dry towel - Microfiber cleaning cloth [](https://www.nike.com/w/accessories-equipment-awwpw) ## How Often Should You Clean Nike Jewelry? - After every workout or heavy sweat: Rinse with lukewarm water and mild soap. - After all-day wear: Wipe with a soft cloth before storing. - Monthly or as needed: Deep clean with a jewelry-safe polishing cloth. ## Daily Maintenance After training, sweat, or all-day wear: When you wear your jewelry through movement, a quick clean keeps it looking fresh. ## How to Clean __1.__ __Rinse with lukewarm water.__ At the sink, run the jewelry under lukewarm water to loosen surface buildup. [](https://www.nike.com/w/accessories-equipment-awwpw) __2.__ __Use a small amount of gentle soap.__ With clean hands, apply a small amount of gentle soap and lightly rub the jewelry between your fingers. Keep the motion soft and controlled to avoid scratching. This helps remove sweat, oils, and everyday buildup. Don’t forget high-contact areas like chains, clasps, and inner surfaces. [](https://www.nike.com/w/accessories-equipment-awwpw) __3.__ __Rinse thoroughly.__ Rinse under lukewarm water to wash away any remaining soap and buildup. [](https://www.nike.com/w/accessories-equipment-awwpw) __4.__ __Pat dry with__ __a soft__ __cloth.__ Using a soft, dry cloth, gently pat the jewelry dry before storing. [](https://www.nike.com/w/accessories-equipment-awwpw) __Pro tip:__ If you sweat in it, rinse it. Sweat and oil buildup is what dulls the finish over time. ## Deep Clean For buildup, dullness, or early tarnish: Over time, everyday wear can reduce shine, and a deeper clean restores it. ## How to Clean __1.__ __Start with__ __‘daily maintenance.’__ Follow the four daily care steps above to remove surface buildup before polishing. [](https://www.nike.com/w/accessories-equipment-awwpw) __2. Use a jewelry-safe micro-polishing cloth.__ For tarnish or dullness, gently buff the surface with a jewelry-safe micro-polishing cloth. Focus on areas that see the most contact, using light pressure to restore shine without scratching. [](https://www.nike.com/w/accessories-equipment-awwpw) __Pro tip:__ Focus on areas that touch skin most — chains, clasps, and inner surfaces. ## How to Store Nike Jewelry to Prevent Tarnish ## Where it lives matters as much as how you wear it. - Store in a cool, dry place, away from humidity and direct sunlight. - Keep pieces in individual pouches or a lined jewelry box to prevent scratching and tangling. - Store with the anti-tarnish strip included in your packaging. It helps slow surface tarnish and is especially useful for extended storage. ## Universal Best Practices - __Last on, first off.__ Jewelry should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. This reduces exposure to products and prevents accidental damage. - __Keep it dry.__ Even water-resistant claims have limits. Remove all jewelry before swimming, bathing, or any water activity. - __Sweat happens.__ If you wear your jewelry during activity, clean it promptly after. Perspiration contains salts and acids that can affect both plated and solid metal finishes over time. - __Store with intention.__ Tangled chains, stacked rings, and loose pieces rubbing together all cause unnecessary wear. Use pouches, boxes, or individual compartments. - __Handle with care.__ Put on and take off jewelry over a soft surface. Avoid dropping pieces onto hard counters or floors. ## Products to Avoid When Cleaning Nike Jewelry - Ultrasonic cleaners (on plated finishes) - Steam cleaners (on plated finishes) - Toothpaste or baking soda - Paper towels or rough cloths that can create micro-scratches ## Related Nike Care Guides - [Shoe Care Guide](https://www.nike.com/a/how-to-clean-shoes)[](https://www.nike.com/a/how-to-clean-shoes) - [How to Care for Workout Clothes](https://www.nike.com/a/take-care-workout-clothes) - [How to Store Shoes](https://www.nike.com/a/how-to-store-shoes) ## Frequently Asked Questions Can I shower with Nike jewelry on? We recommend removing Nike jewelry before showering. Repeated exposure to water, soap, shampoo, and other personal care products can accelerate buildup, dull finishes, and shorten the lifespan of plated jewelry. Can I work out wearing Nike jewelry? Nike jewelry is designed for everyday wear, including activity. However, sweat contains salts and acids that can affect metal finishes over time. If you wear your jewelry while training, rinse and clean it promptly afterward. How do I remove tarnish from gold vermeil? For light tarnish or dullness, gently buff the surface with a jewelry-safe micro-polishing cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, toothpaste, or baking soda, which can damage the gold layer. Will Nike jewelry turn my skin green? Nike jewelry only uses premium materials, such as solid gold or plated sterling silver. All materials have gone through extensive chemical testing to ensure they are safe for sensitive skin. Nike jewelry should not create any skin reactions or green residue. Green residue is often created by plated brass or copper jewelry, but Nike jewelry does not use these materials. How long does gold vermeil plating last? The lifespan of gold vermeil depends on wear frequency, exposure to moisture, and how well the piece is maintained. With proper care and storage, gold vermeil can maintain its appearance for years. Can I use an ultrasonic cleaner on Nike jewelry? No. We do not recommend using ultrasonic cleaners on Nike gold vermeil or rhodium-plated jewelry because they can damage plated finishes. For solid 14K gold pieces, consult a professional jeweler before using ultrasonic cleaning methods. What is the difference between gold vermeil and gold-plated jewelry? Gold vermeil is made with a thicker layer of gold than standard gold-plated jewelry. Nike gold vermeil pieces feature 925 sterling silver with 2.5 microns of 14K gold plating for enhanced durability and wear. Does sweat damage gold jewelry? Sweat itself does not permanently damage solid gold, but it can leave residue and contribute to buildup that dulls the surface over time. Cleaning jewelry after workouts helps maintain its appearance. How often should I clean jewelry I wear every day? For everyday wear, wipe jewelry with a soft cloth after use and perform a more thorough cleaning weekly. Pieces exposed to sweat, lotions, or frequent activity may benefit from more frequent cleaning.
