A dominant amateur career saw Tommy win the 2009 Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Championship and the 2010 English Amateur while finishing runner-up in the 2010 Spanish Amateur and the 2010 European Amateur. These impressive showings brought Tommy to first in the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings. He fulfilled his amateur promise as a professional in 2011, winning the Kazakhstan Open and ultimately becoming the youngest winner of the Challenge Tour. In 2012 Tommy had four top-10 finishes on the European Tour.
