After a successful trip through Qualifying School in 2004, Richard joined the European Tour in 2005, finishing 60th in the Order of Merit. He captured his first victory at the 2007 Michael Hill New Zealand Open. In a dramatic finish to the 2008 Irish Open, Richard accidentally fell in the water hazard as he delivered his third shot on the 18th, before being fished out by his caddie and closing out a two-stroke win. From 2009 through 2012, Richard added ten top-10 finishes to his resume.
