Two-time U.S. Open champion and World Golf Hall of Famer Curtis Strange began playing golf at an early age on a course owned by his father. At age 15, Curtis won the Virginia Junior Championship, and later earned the Arnold Palmer Scholarship to play golf at Wake Forest University. Along with teammate and future PGA Tour professional, Jay Haas, Curtis was part of one of the best collegiate teams in history. He led Wake Forest to consecutive NCAA titles in 1974 and 1975, winning the individual crown in 1974.

Curtis turned professional in 1976 and won his first tour event in 1979 at the Pensacola Open. He won three PGA Tour events in 1985 and topped the PGA Tour money list in 1985, 1987 and in 1988, when he became the first player to win more than a million dollars in official earnings in one season. Curtis' success on tour reached its apex when he won back-to-back U.S. Open titles in 1988 and 1989. He is considered one of the greatest golfers of the 1980s, during which he won 16 of his 17 career PGA Tour victories, He eventually left the Tour to become a lead golf analyst on ABC, but in 2004 he returned to competitive golf on the Champions Tour. Regarded as an intense competitor, Curtis played on five Ryder Cup teams and captained the team in 2002. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2007.
