From February 21st through
March 3rd, a group from Jordan Brand will travel to
Europe to select 12 players for the inaugural
International Game as part of the Jordan Brand Classic
on Saturday, April 19th at Madison Square Garden in New
York City. The following is a blog and daily photo
gallery from Kevin Foley, who will be along for the
trip.
Travel Day (February
21-22): So, yes that was a long
trip yesterday, er, today. I can confirm
it. It is a totally different thing to
travel Internationally -- you always know that
it will be an experience. The highlight of
the travel had to be seeing the Harlem
Globetrotters at Washington-Dulles
Airport. It
was pretty cool though to see fans lining up to
take photos and get autographs while the players
sat at the gate -- probably similar to when NBA
or college teams used to travel commercially.
Funny thing was that I then saw the team in the
Frankfurt Airport later that day too. I
landed in Frankfurt around 7:30 am to meet up
with the rest of the Jordan Brand team before
departing later in the morning for our first
regional site - Vilnius, Lithuania. Our
group came from all over the US as well -
Virginia, Illinois, Oregon, etc. We even
had a few Nike Sports Marketing folks from the
European office. The plane
touched down in Vilnius just before 2 pm and our
time was tight to get prepared for a 5:00 pm
press conference at the Nike Store in Acropolis Mall.
The media turnout was fantastic and the panel,
let by MJ's former trainer, Tim Grover, provided
insight on the next two days of training here in
Vilnius. After a
quick trip over to the Sarunas Academy, we all
decided that it was best to catch up on some
sleep after two days of traveling -- and an 8 am
start on Saturday. More to come
tomorrow!!!! |
