Look of Sport: Shanghai

Last year, we visited New York City, London and Tokyo to find 77 people who represented the maverick spirit of the running club. This year, we visited Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles to find young athletes who distinguish style through sportswear. This creative group of people calls Shanghai home. All are styled in both spring and summer looks.

 

Photographed by a Shanghai-based young photographer, Tang Ting is known for capturing the city’s youth culture using only 35mm film cameras. All photographs in the Look of  Sport were shot using film and all photographers were found on Flickr.

I love running to California/surf/indie-rock music. I run 5K a week. Sometimes I do experimental art events. I did a party where no one was allowed to talk for an hour — we locked 300 people in a warehouse, and the rule was you could only talk to people by drawing. By then end, the whole space was trashed!

    With skateboarding you fail a lot. But when you actually get it right, it's a feeling that money can't buy. It's a rush and a sense of accomplishment. Skateboarding is a lot about freedom — when I feel like skating I'll go out and skate. And when I don't, I'll just watch some skate videos or something. I skate everyday for like 3-4 hours, then I’ll go meet my friends to play soccer, touch football, or video games.
